Wellington based artist Deborah Barton created a series of figurative paintings while staying at Burwell House as the William Hodges fellow in 2010. Barton has a subdued narrative in her work: exploring imagination, familialties, and Southland’s environment and history.

Community Access Gallery
There is nothing like a cup of tea served in the traditional fine china teacup. Tea drinkers enjoy invitations for ‘afternoon tea’: the tea, sandwiches and cakes served from fine china. Afternoon tea is a moment for marking ‘time out’ in our busy daily schedules.The exhibition items are from a private collection.

Robyn Belton - Gathering Images - An Illustrator’s Journey

Children’s book illustrator Robyn Belton created much interest when her work was first shown at the Southland Museum & Art Gallery in 2009. As the current William Hodges fellow Belton’s new work shows an illustrator’s progress in the development of subjects for three stories about survival.
