This exhibition tells the story of the distinct and dynamic culture of the South Island’s Ngāi Tahu people.
Developed in partnership by the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Ngāi Tahu Iwi Steering Group and toured by the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, this exhibition celebrates the past and present, and invites visitors to learn about
Ngāi Tahu values, and share their vision for the future through taonga (treasures), photographs, audio visual displays, and art.

Mō Ngā Uri - Ngāi Tahu Contempory Art from Murihiku
Gallery Four
Mō Ngā Uri is an exhibition of contemporary work by Murihiku/Southland Maori being shown in conjunction with Mō Tātou: The Ngāi Tahu Whānui Exhibition from Te Papa.
Building on their love and respect for the traditional arts, Murihiku artists have created works that combine traditional and contemporary techniques and materials.

Positively Pastels
Level One - Upstairs
The Southern Pastel Artists have organized this annual event since 2002 and attract entries of a high professional standard from throughout New Zealand. The exhibition demonstrates the versatility of pastels which can give effects ranging from soft, delicate blending of colour through to brilliant bold strokes. Pastels have been a favoured art medium for centuries. Artists as varied as Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso and Degas have enjoyed the medium’s versatility and its brilliant colour.
